Rooftop installations are expected to match or exceed large-scale power plants

Rooftop solar installations in China are expected to match or exceed large-scale projects in China

in the coming years, according to the chairman of the CPIA.

In the first four months of the year, solar investment in China reached RMB 29 billion ($4.4 billion), according to the National Energy Administration (NEA). This corresponds to a threefold increase by the beginning of 2021. China's installed solar capacity now stands at 320 GW, up 24% year-on-year. In the first three months, 5.6 GW were commissioned.

In February, the honorary chairman of the CPIA said the industry planned to add between 83 GW and 99 GW of new capacity each year until 2025.

Editor's note: The most important thing to note from this text is that rooftop PV installations are expected to outpace large-scale power plant projects. This means that the Chinese have realised that the future lies in small and medium-sized installations with local use of the energy produced.
