The trend according to PV InfoLink on 18 May

Silicon :

May production volume is expected to increase by 4%-6% over April to 65,000-66,000 tonnes despite production line review outages. The market notes that upstream shortages show no sign of abating.

Silicon supply remains insufficient. Its price is between 252 and 257 RMB/kg. (JinkoSolar claims to have seen prices of RMB 260/kg)

Production increased by 16% in May compared to January. Yet prices are rising due to strong demand from end users and rapid expansion of ingot plant capacity which immediately absorbs all silicon production.

The differences between Chinese and overseas silicon prices will become more pronounced, thanks to the characteristics and advantages of overseas, as well as the apparently rare increase in production capacity in recent times.

Wafers :

This week, mono-Si wafer prices are stabilising. The increase in the price of silicon can only be reflected in the price of wafers. Only the major manufacturers are sticking to 165µm thickness. Most others have moved to 155-160 µm.

The supply of mono-Si wafers will increase in June, in response to the challenges of demand from the cell sector.

Cells :

The rise in cell prices stalled this week as panel manufacturers continued to reduce their purchases and restrict their acceptance of price increases. The cell sector is building up stocks.

M6 cells are seeing a slight increase in price, due to reduced supply. This is because wafer manufacturers are gradually upgrading their production lines. At present, M6, M10 and G12 cells are trading at RMB 1.1-1.15/W, RMB 1.17-1.19/W and RMB 1.15-1.17/W.

Overseas markets are seeing a slight increase in order volume as they have greater bargaining power due to high prices in China and the advantage of exchange rates.

Panels :

The upstream sectors are increasing production costs and therefore their prices. Panel prices are rising accordingly in May. Some end users are starting to accept prices of 1.9 RMB/W.

In recent tenders, panel manufacturers have offered prices ranging from 1.95 to 2.05 RMB/W.

As of mid-May, orders are being delivered at prices of RMB 1.9-1.93/W for centralised projects, and RMB 1.93-1.95/W for distributed projects,

In overseas markets, prices are stabilising for the time being, with slight fluctuations depending on the dollar. Nevertheless, the Asia-Pacific region is seeing some orders for the second and third quarters at $0.265-0.27/W (FOB).

In Europe, prices continue to rise due to robust demand and exchange rate fluctuations. At present, prices for glass-foil panels over 500 W are at $0.27-0.28/W, reaching $0.28-0.30/W on the spot market. For residential projects, prices are between $0.285 and $0.315/W. Prices for panels with a black backsheet are $0.295-0.35/W.

N-type cells and panels :

There are no obvious changes in prices as the market has not yet seen many price offers for N-type products. Prices for M6 HJT cells are around RMB 1.28-1.35/W.

TOPCon M10 and G12 cells have not yet seen much trade, with prices currently at RMB 1.2-1.25/W.

Board prices are rising slightly due to higher production costs, at RMB 2.1-2.15/W for M6 HJT boards, and $0.28-0.33 in overseas markets.

Prices for TOPCon M10 and G12 boards remain at the same level as last week, at RMB 1.95-2.05/W, and $0.28-0.3 in overseas markets.
