Next offer of virtual power plant by Sonnen

From the third quarter, the German battery storage manufacturer Sonnen will offer German households the option of choosing between the feed-in tariffs from the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the wholesale market prices.

It will first be offered to households with a newly added rooftop PV system and a Sonnen battery storage system, while existing customers with a PV system commissioned from 2020 will have to wait until 2023.It will first be offered to households with a newly added rooftop PV system and a battery storage system from Sonnen, while existing customers with a PV system commissioned from 2020 onwards will have to wait until 2023.

Sonnen will offer a competitive electricity tariff. For 2022, the tariff would be 0.10 c€ per kWh, which is higher than the EEG price of 0.0693 c€/kWh. In case the EEG remuneration exceeds Sonnen's offer, customers can revert to the EEG remuneration.

In case of excess electricity, it will either be supplied to SonnenComunity, the company's aggregated network of solar customers and energy storage, or sold on the electricity market. In return, households will receive free electricity when they do not produce enough themselves.

The fact that the market price for solar energy is higher than the EEG's remuneration shows that renewable energies can survive independently on the market today.
