The French President has announced a target of 100 GW PV in 2050

While France has 13.2 GW of solar power, the French President has announced a target of 100 GW of photovoltaic power by 2050, after having reached the intermediate level of 40 GW installed by 2028.

It should be remembered that Germany wants to have 200 GW within 40 years (in 2050).

At the same time, he announced the renaissance of French nuclear power with plans to build at least six new nuclear reactors. The first would be commissioned in 2035. Studies for eight other reactors will be launched. Of course, climate advocates denounce the nuclear expansion plan, and regret that France is the worst performer in Europe when it comes to renewable energy.

Enerplan has welcomed and approved the solar ambition of the President of the Republic. For the union, the speech of the President of the Republic marks an important step; it is the recognition by the highest authority It is the recognition by the highest authority of the State of the preponderant role of solar energy in the decarbonised energy transition and in the future electricity mix.

This objective is reinforced by the fact that it is part of a vision of a balanced and diversified mix. Enerplan has long been calling for a change in the attitude of the administration and a reduction in standards, which are essential factors for accelerating the development of solar energy.

More than ever, we are mobilized to catch up with France and to reach this objective of 100GW in 2050, i.e. +5 GW/year of new connected solar capacity", declares Daniel Bour, president of Enerplan.

Yannick Jado condemned "the condemnation of France to a century of nuclear power". This decision, "without democratic debate" condemns France to "a century of nuclear power". "We have a President of the Republic who is over-investing in nuclear power, which is a fiasco," the Green candidate hammered, in view of the insane cost overrun of the EPR in Flamanville: "When you have 17 billion in additional costs, the lesson is not to stop, it is to make six or ten", mocked a bit sardonic Yannick Jadot, considering that "it is properly irresponsible. Jean-Luc MélenchonA single man has once again decided to commit the country to nuclear power for the next 30 years and to extend the use of old power stations for another 30 years. No expertise, no impact study, no plan. It's a fait du prince," he said.

The Climate Action Network : Relaunching a nuclear industry is a costly option that does not respond to the urgency of having a low-carbon, fault-free electricity supply in the next decade. "Emmanuel Macron is acting as the spokesperson for a nuclear industry that is already in decline, instead of considering the real solutions of renewable energies and energy savings. This announcement is a risky gamble, as demonstrated by the Flamanville fiasco, and jeopardises the achievement of our climate goals."

NDLR As a good politician, E. Macron avoids choosing and wants to give both alternatives a chance. He wants to be re-elected and for that he must not offend either side. Both may feel that they have been heard. There is then a winner: E. Macron.

And then, two months before the elections, it is the time for promises that do not commit the author and that listeners take at face value.
