Reconciliation of thermostats and hourly rates. How will the public be welcomed?

Europe's leading supplier of intelligent thermostats, tado°, has acquired the German company aWATTar, a specialist in variable hourly tariff energy offers. This technology makes it possible to shift consumption

electricity to the greenest and cheapest hours.

The combination of the two technologies will enable customers to take advantage of volatile energy markets to heat their homes, charge their electric vehicles or power their homes with solar photovoltaic energy.

79% of household energy consumption comes from heating and hot water. tado°'s technology makes it possible to intelligently manage home heating to take advantage of periods when prices are lower, in a volatile energy market. By combining this technology with aWATTar's time-of-use energy tariffs, customers will have the opportunity to make savings on their energy bills while maintaining the level of comfort to which they are accustomed.

Editor's note The combination of the two activities seems a good thing. But there's no guarantee that this technology will catch on quickly. Just look at the young companies that want to organise the management of the energy produced by solar installations in homes. They seem to be having trouble finding customers, given the population's attachment to customs and traditions, and the difficulty of believing the salesmen's arguments because there are no examples in operation to encourage people to trust them.
