Sodium-ion batteries soon on the market?
Chinese researchers have studied the barriers to the use of sodium-ion batteries. They have found a solution to make the technology more competitive in terms of durability and cost, while improving
chemical stability using hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs). They introduced multi-site hydrogen bonding.
The use of organic electrodes would make sodium-ion technology even more economical, but more importantly, the researchers showed that the introduction of multi-site hydrogen bonding into the organic hydrogen-bonded frameworks would significantly increase chemical stability and achieve super-long cycle life

Sodium batteries have emerged as a low-cost, lithium-free energy storage alternative based on abundant and more environmentally friendly materials. The world's number one manufacturer, CATL, plans to market sodium-ion batteries as early as 2023.
In the meantime, the researchers want to find a solution to the remaining problems, such as the formation of dentrites. To this end, one team has changed the composition of the electrolyte. Another has developed a new sodium metal anode for rechargeable batteries that resists dendrite formation. This is a sodium-antimony-telluride-Na metal intermetallic composite (NST-Na)
