Sharp rise in large-scale US power plant installations at the end of September
In the first nine months of 2021, large-scale solar power additions in the US reached 8.4 MW, an increase of
by 38% compared to the same period last year. Wind installations reached 8.2 GW. RE accounted for 88% of new capacity added in the nine months, up from 64% in the same period last year, according to FERC.
Solar now accounts for 5% of the capacity added by large power plants in the US.
The share of solar power is expected to increase significantly over the next few years. FERC data suggests that of the 106 GW of "highly likely" additions between October 2021 and September 2024, about 52 GW will be solar.
