Germany's new government coalition favours renewable energy and especially solar energy

Germany's new government coalition (SPD, Greens and FPD) has set out the guidelines for the country's future energy policy. They agreed to double Germany's solar target to

200 GW by 2030, raise the country's renewable energy target to 80% of electricity demand by 2030 from 65%, and bring forward the coal phase-out date from 2038 to 2030.

Other coalition targets include achieving 10 GW of hydrogen electrolysis capacity by 2030, producing half of Germany's heat supply by carbon-neutral means by 2030, and ensuring stable supply through some gas and coal supply while renewable capacity increases.

The coalition estimates that electricity demand will reach 680-750 TWh per year in 2030

German energy company RWE believes that this government agreement can give a considerable boost to the energy transition.

Editor's note: We can set ambitious targets. You can want a clean planet. You can also formulate unrealistic targets. It will take time to set up the industrial and installation structures for RE. It will then take time for the construction to be completed and for the grid to absorb the production. The eight-year timeframe seems very short

We can always set ambitious targets! Is it better to have realistic or unrealistic targets?
