New metal backsheet panel technology

Start-up Roofit.solar has secured €6.4m to bring to market a building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) panel technology that the company developed with the support of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). Three types of panels are proposed

with wattages of 110, 135 and 160 W. All panels are equipped with a 0.5 mm metal back sheet with a very durable wall coating. They are supposed to have a snail-like structure. On the front side, the panels are covered with 3.2 mm low-iron tempered glass with anti-reflection technology. They can be used with a minimum roof pitch of 10 degrees and a minimum ventilation of less than 50 mm.

The minimum 200mm overlap area on top of the panel ensures a watertight connection between two adjacent panels on the roof. The panel cables run between the battens and junction boxes under each panel and are inserted between two battens.

The panels are produced in the factory in Tallin, Estonia.

Editor's note: This is at least the tenth announcement of solar tiles to be offered to the market in a few weeks. What an avalanche! Each time, no announcement is made about the price, the interest of these tiles, or why this product is being offered at this time. Is it a substitute for Chinese panels? Or has the technology progressed so much that this tile simplifies installations, as it is in a way similar to the installation of traditional tiles?
