The evolution of PV and PV+storage installation costs in the US in 2020

The cost of solar and solar+storage fell by an average of 10% betweenQ1 2020 andQ1 2021 in the US.

NREL examined the evolution of installation costs, taking into account all system and project development costs.

Large plants :

The cost of a 100 MW single-axis solar plant for a utility decreased by 12.3% from $1.02/W-dc to $0.89/W-dc.

The cost of installing a 60 MW/240 MWh stand-alone battery energy storage system (BESS) decreased by 13.1%, from $437/kWh to $379/kWh.

A 100 MW PV system + 60 MW/240 MWh DC battery decreased by 11.5% from $190 million to $168 million.

A 100 MW PV system + 60 MW/240 MWh AC battery decreased by 12.3% from US$190 million to US$167 million.

Commercial installations :

The cost of a single 200 kW solar installation decreased by 10.7

The cost of a 600 kW / 2.4 MWh single battery installation decreased by 10.6

The cost of a 1 MW DC solar installation and 600 kW / 2.4 MWh storage decreased by 9.2

The cost of an AC solar installation and storage decreased by 9.5

Residential installations :

The cost of a 22-panel system decreased by only 3.2

The cost of installing a single 5 kW / 12.5 kWh battery has decreased by 9.7

The cost of a residential DC solar system with storage decreased by 5.8%,

The cost of a residential AC solar system with storage decreased by only 3.4%.
