Different organisation of shingle cells
Instead of placing the half-cut cells in the traditional way (in a vertical line), Fraunhofer ISE placed them as in a brick wall. This arrangement
reduces the space between solar cells in a string, resulting in lower currents and higher efficiencies. The panels are up to 6% more efficient than those using conventionally connected semi-cut solar cells.
This arrangement allows current to flow around the shaded areas of the panel, potentially doubling the amount of energy a panel can produce when partially shaded.
