What target for solar installations should the US set for 2035?

According to the US Department of Energy (DOE), if solar installations in the US quadruple by the middle of the decade, solar PV could provide up to 40% of electricity demand by 2035 (compared to 3% today).

This would require a total generation capacity of 1 TW by 2035 to cover the increased electrification of transport, heating and some heavy industries. This would mean installing an annual average of 30 GW by 2025, and then an average of 60 GW per year between 2025 and 2030 (compared to 15 GW installed in 2020).

At the same time, storage facilities would increase from the current 30 GW to almost 400 GW in 2035

Only petitions launched in July that seek to extend anti-dumping and countervailing duties to subsidiaries of solar panel manufacturers located in Southeast Asia could disrupt supply to installers. This situation could only be circumvented by the creation of new production units on American soil.

Editor's note The gap between 15 GW installed annually and the 30 GW that should be installed annually by 2025 is not too great. This rather realistic target makes it feasible and even possible
