GAF Energy relocates to the US

While the production of solar roofs was located in Asia, GAF Energy, a subsidiary of Standard Industries, relocated its facilities to California,

The company's 11,000 square metre manufacturing and research and development centre are located in the same building. The directors explain that this co-location of R&D and production is a huge advantage for the design office.

In October 2020, the US SEIA estimated that silicon production capacity in the US exceeded 20 GW and that 7 GW of solar panels could be assembled there per year, enough to meet about a third of current domestic market demand. The trade body called for 100 GW of annual manufacturing capacity to be deployed by 2030.

In the US, 3.1 GW of residential capacity was installed by 2020

Editor's note: The US seems very concerned about the concentration of PV production in China. SEIA has not been accustomed to advocating for US production, having campaigned for the removal of tariffs during the Trump Administration. This indicates an awareness and willingness to boost domestic production
