Canadian Solar to market panels at HJ in second half of the year

Canadian Solar plans to launch its first N-type heterojunction (HJ) PV panels in the second half of 2021, according to PV Tech.

The company has already completed

the construction of a 250 MW production line for its HJ PASSCon cell in late 2020. The pilot line would also include panel assembly at the Jiaxing site in China. The company did not disclose its production plans. It has only indicated that its capital expenditure of $330m in 2020 would be doubled in 2021 to $700m.

For its part, JinkoSolar plans to use n-type mono TOPCon technology and capacity expansion rather than HJ technology, as it believes the latter is not as mature for consumer applications.
