Tongwei, the world's leading silicon and cell producer, has begun commissioning the latest cell lines at its 15 GW production centre in Meishen, Sichuan Province, China. This makes it the largest solar cell production plant in the world.

In February 2020, Tongwei announced plans to build a new solar cell manufacturing centre in Chengdu in four phases over three to five years, with a nominal capacity of 30 GW.

Trina Solar will set up a 10 GW panel assembly plant in Yancheng, north of Shanghai. This construction will take two years and would cost RMB 2.5bn ($386m).

In 2020, further announcements of a 10 GW cell capacity increase have been made in this city.

Panel deliveries last year by Trina Solar are estimated at 15 GW.
