The first hydrogen measuring device to be approved
Heinrichs Messtechnik GmbH, a subsidiary of the Kobold Group, has developed the TMU-W 004 mass flow meter. This device ensures precise dosing of hydrogen in spite of pressure and temperature fluctuations. It is the first
to be certified by international standard OIML R 139 2018.
Hydrogen is delivered to vehicles with a pressure of 700 bars. This high pressure is necessary to properly measure the gas supplied. The hydrogen must not have a temperature of more than 85°C. As filling has the effect of expanding and heating the tank, the hydrogen must have cooled down before it reaches the tank. This high pressure and variable temperature environment, as well as the small size of the hydrogen molecule, are important constraints in achieving an accurate hydrogen flow measurement.
