In brief from China: JinkoSolar invests in cells; JYT discovers the value of wafers

JinkoSolar has started the construction of its 20 GW solar cell factory in Chuxiong,

in Yunnan Province. The first 10 GW phase is expected to be commissioned by the end of April 2021, while the second 10 GW phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year. This will increase its cell production capacity to more than 30 GW. Jinko would then become the world's third largest cell producer behind Tongwei (40 GW) and Aiko Solaire (32 GW).

In just a few weeks, China's JYT has secured four major orders for large area (210 mm) photovoltaic wafers for a total value of around RMB 16.8 billion (US$2.6 billion).

In March 2020, JYT announced its intention to build a 10 GW wafer production plant in Leshan (Sichuan) and increase its capacity to 15 GW. In November 2020, JYT announced that it would build a 24 GW ingot/wafer facility in Leshan.
