Electric vehicles are now taxed in Australia
In some Australian states, electric vehicles are taxed annually because they do not pay tax on petrol and must contribute to road maintenance.
This follows a study mentioning that road taxes on petrol were not paid by electric vehicles. This measure is likely to slow down the adoption of these vehicles.
A study by the University of Melbourne showed that extending current increases in greenhouse gas emissions would impact the Australian economy by $1.9 trillion by 2050, with annual damage reaching $100 billion by 2038. This would be equivalent to an annual Covid pandemic over the next 20 years.
