Researchers at the University of Malaga (Spain) have developed a photovoltaic panel to be integrated into buildings that improves light absorption without losing efficiency and durability. It uses a new encapsulation design that changes colour to better integrate into buildings.

The UK government has published a ten-point plan on how it intends to accelerate the green industrial revolution in the UK, but it has completely omitted photovoltaics. Offshore wind is being promoted as the country's ideal renewable energy source.

In Switzerland, the Federal Council will devote CHF 470 million in 2021 to the expansion of renewable energies. This should eliminate the waiting list for contracts benefiting from feed-in tariffs (FIT) for photovoltaic systems.

By 2020, 22,400 new renewable energy systems will have received public support. This means that 85,000 subsidised systems are currently in operation in Switzerland, covering around 9% of total electricity consumption. The total output of these systems is about 330 MW.

In 2020, 2,400 large installations have been financed, representing 713 MW.

For 2020, an increase of 400 MW in PV capacity is planned, which would bring the total power of the installed systems to about 2.9 GW. Photovoltaic systems are expected to cover about 4.7% of demand.
