In Brief Hydrogen/ France: GTT acquires Areva H2Gen, Hynomed, Lhyfe, Brittany Regional Council has a hydrogen project

To develop the production and storage of hydrogen, the French GTT

has just acquired Areva H2Gen. This company designs and assembles electrolysers producing green hydrogen. It uses proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology. It is the only French electrolyser manufacturer.

Hynomed, a new player in the Var region for green hydrogen, has Engie Solutions as a 51% shareholder. The objective is to deploy a hydrogen ecosystem at the service of land and sea mobility in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region as part of the Hynovar project. It is expected to be operational by the end of 2022.

Nantes-based Lhyfe is launching the construction of France's first "green" hydrogen unit, near the Bouin wind farm (Vendée). It is an investment of 6 million euros. From May 2021, the unit should reach a production capacity of 300 kilos of hydrogen per year.

The Regional Council of Brittany is launching a project to develop renewable hydrogen by 2030. The aim is to set up a Breton sector. To do this, quantitative objectives have been set:

- eight local loops of renewable and low carbon hydrogen (of at least 200 kg H2/d/site) distributed over the territory in the first three years of the project.

- three maritime port ecosystems using renewable hydrogen between 2023 and 2030.

- launch of a first fleet of 10 pilot vessels (passenger service, freight cabotage, handling, fishing), with electro-hydrogen propulsion, as well as the commissioning of 2,800 vehicles by 2030

- develop research and industrial development.
