Hydraulic and wind power enabled renewable energies to remain the main source of electricity in Europe during the third quarter, according to the British company Enappsys. Solar energy suffered a sharp drop in production, down to 5.4% of total production (compared with 7.8% in the second quarter and 5.9% a year ago) due to the reduction in sunshine.
Clean energy accounted for 40% of electricity in Europe during the quarter, hydroelectricity 16% and wind power 15%.
Total electricity production in Europe during the last quarter reached 657 TWh. It increased by 7% from 611 TWh in the second quarter and decreased by 3% from 674 TWh in the third quarter of last year.
