South Korea protects its photovoltaic market
To protect its panel manufacturers, South Korea has established a classification according to the carbon footprint of the panels. Only the highest category, with emissions below 670 kg of CO2 per kW, can benefit from public subsidies.
Chinese products were in the lowest category. The highest scores were reserved for manufacturers based in Korea who use Korean wafers. Thus Hanwha Q Cells and the South Korean Hansol Technics were the highest scorers.

Editor's note After China imposed tariffs on South Korean silicon and forced manufacturers to shut down their factories, it is only natural that Korea should impose restrictions on Chinese panels. That the Middle Kingdom producers are furious is logical, but it is a reaction to their own behaviour.
