350 MW solar power plant project without subsidy in the UK
The British company Hive Energy has presented the project for a 350 MW solar power plant without subsidy to the authorities for approval. It would be built on the north coast of Kent. The project will be
probably associated with on-site energy storage.
The Aurora Energy Research consultancy firm believes that storage is essential to make such a project profitable, as it will allow energy to be shifted outside periods of strong sunlight. The project's internal rate of return [IRR] would be between 6.6% and 7.6% for hybrid assets deployed in 2020, compared with 4% for stand-alone solar and battery assets.
