Panel recycling introduced in Taiwan

An obligation to recycle and dispose of end-of-life panels has just been introduced in Taiwan. Every panel in solar power plants will be registered. A fee of NT$1,000 per kW will be charged at the time of installation.

The installed solar capacity is expected to reach 20 GW in 2025. From 2035, there will be 100,000 tonnes of panels scrapped each year if the lifetime is 20 years. Every year, 0.5% of the panels are removed prematurely due to early destruction.

The aim is to avoid the uncontrolled landfill that was developing.
