New record length of time coal has not been used in the UK
Good weather and lower than normal energy demand allowed Great Britain to set a new record without coal on 28 April. The previous record was 18 days and 6 hours without coal during May 2019.

Editor's note Even though the demand for electricity has fallen sharply as a result of the pandemic, there is a fundamental movement to make coal- or oil-fired generators uneconomic, and thus to force them to be shut down. However, there is no guarantee that demand for electricity will remain at a very low level. If it increases, traditional generators will have to be used.
