Another contribution to the development of solar energy

During a pandemic, now is not the time to favour fossil fuel industries, according to a former environmentalist candidate for the US presidency.

Favouring hydrocarbons can be a way to make money

but this proves to be counterproductive in the long term. For the time being, oil companies are largely protected because of their deep roots in the economy.

The world of private investment is realising - belatedly - that social and financial investment decisions are the same.

Investing in clean energy is not just a social investment to curb climate change. It also makes sense for the market. Wind power is already on track to provide 20% of electricity in the US by 2030. The solar industry has been growing at a rate of more than 48% per year since 2010. An investment in clean energy is coupled with an investment in long-term, well-paying American jobs. The solar industry employs a quarter of a million people, a number that has doubled since 2012 due to the rapid growth of this activity.

Despite subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, clean energy and climate action is economically competitive. Government subsidies for oil and gas infrastructure are a short-term response that counters the long-term and permanent environmental trend.

Editor's note The argument presented here is that there is a sense of history and that we must conform to it. That there is coordination between the interest of society and the interest of the climate. These are interesting assertions, but they are still assertions. There is no economic or strategic argument to justify this position.

It is certainly easier to invoke the climate and environmental degradation, but is that enough? Yes, ecologists answer. Perhaps the business leaders answer, asking to see the advantages and disadvantages of their choices that condition their competitiveness. However, these positive and negative points are overshadowed by climate advocates who repeat over and over again that the climate must be saved. Without any further arguments. How can we convince then?
