Rust to produce hydrogen!

Researchers at the Tokyo University of Science have discovered that goethite, a common type of rust, can be used as a

catalyst for accelerating hydrogen production using solar energy.

Hydrogen production is usually obtained by dividing the components of water. This is the predominant method at present. However, hydrogen can be obtained by reactions fuelled directly by sunlight. This solution is a major research objective. Japanese scientists have identified a new material to catalyse the process.
