Using immersed cells?

Indian researchers have tested the functioning of submerged cells. Mono and polycrystalline cells would register a decrease of

20% conversion efficiency at one metre depth, but amorphous silicon devices showed a smaller reduction at 1.5 m, thus potentially showing "stimulating results".

They also found that the cell efficiency was different in lake, sea or pure water.

Different uses could be made of this submerged cell: the remaining conversion efficiency could be sufficient to power submerged marine electronic devices.
