Sunglasses often have micro-cracks in them.

Turkish researchers have analysed two types of solar glass to examine the effect of temperature changes on the absorbance, transmission and reflectivity of light.

They have shown that lenses can reduce their effectiveness due to a large number of micro-cracks and surface deformations.
