BR 2020 should apply from 1 January 2021, but nothing is ready yet.

From 1 January 2021, building professionals will have to apply the BR 2020 for all new collective, individual or tertiary construction. This will become the new standard and thus replace the RT 2012,

Its contours are still unclear, but its ambition is clear: to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, and improve living comfort, especially during hot summers.

The main thrusts of the BR 2020:

- The abandonment of "Bepos" positive energy buildings.

- The obligation to compensate for the use of non-renewable heat with a renewable energy source. No obligation is foreseen around photovoltaics. The use of solar heat is not imposed by the 2020 BR.

Uses should encourage professionals and individuals to produce solar energy. The development of mobility should support demand.

- Tertiary buildings should generalise the use of Bepos buildings, due to the demand from companies concerned about their environmental impact.

Editor's note We are already in 2020, and the RT 2020 could not be defined by building professionals each pulling in their own direction. Even photovoltaic technology is not the solution, even though progress has been made in its implementation. The modernisation of France will wait. Another delay compared to Asian countries, which are quickly achieving what seems indispensable. Energy savings are indispensable.
