Panels on flat roofs increase the intensity of fires.

Researchers from the University of Edinburgh and the Technical University of Denmark have analysed the interaction of a fire between a flat roof and panels placed on it. They found that a small gap between the two increased the intensity of the fires.

However, commercially available panels are mainly made of non-combustible materials.
