4.1 million electricity-related items sold off-grid in nine months
Sales of off-grid solar products (lamps, multi-luminaires, panels, etc.) reached 4.1 million objects in the first half of 2019 according to the World Bank. The sales record was beaten this year. They
represent 40 MW of cumulated capacity during the half year.
East Africa remains the most important market for off-grid industry and was the destination of 1.74 million units in the first half of the year. South Asia became the second largest market with 1.16 million units shipped during the period. Other African and Asian markets lag far behind, with sales volumes ranging from 120,000 in Central Africa to 410,000 in the Middle East and North Africa.
